The gruelling Dusi Canoe Marathon is arguably one of the world’s biggest canoe races.  This race travels through the rural Valley of a Thousand Hills in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Started in the 1950s, the race attracts over 1600 paddlers but it was not until 1981 that black paddlers were legally allowed to participate.

This is the story of how one development academy flipped the script on elite sports performance and now provides the foundation for the majority of the top 50 paddlers in the race.
